I was told that a regular ethernet cable (RJ45) can work well up to 50ft in length. I need to connect a printer via Asantetalk and will need a 30ft cross-over type cable, will it also work?

i think that 10BaseT cross-over cables max. out at 50 feet

non cross-over cables max. at 150 feet

this of course without the use of any repeaters

i tried a quick search for a table of max. lengths of cable but couldn't find one

FYI, the length of CAT 5 ethernet cable over 10t is 100 meters or approx 380 ft BEFORE you need any additional hardware.

Also, if you have a Mac with Gigabit ethernet (1000t), such as recent G4 tower or some TiBooks, you don't need a cross-over cable as switch is automatic.

I've strung a fair bit of wire in my day. ;)
