OK, maybe someone on this board can help me.

I can't get a LaserWriter Select 360 to work on an all OSX 10.3.5 network. It used to work in a mixed environment (various OSX 10.2 and OS9 boxes on network)

The printer is linked via Asante LocalTalk-to-Ethernet Bridge to an SMC hub. I have tried Rendezvous and IP LPD/LPR to no avail.

Apple says this printer is not supported, but I have heard of others making it work.

Any insights?

Make sure that Appletalk is activated in OSX. I don't think it is on by default. I don't have Panther so I don't know the specifics.

Another possibility is the Asante box. I use them quite a bit. One nagging problem is that the connection gets dropped if there is a power outage and it doesn't reconnect at subsequent startups. This could also occur if the Asante box is disconnected while a computer is running.
In order to reestablish the network connection I make sure that all computers are off. Then disconnect the power cord, local talk plug, and ethernet plug from the Asante box in that order. Wait about 10 seconds and then reinstall the ethernet, local talk and power plugs into the Asante box. Restart your computers and it should work.

In OS9 I can do it without shutting down the computer if I switch Appletalk from the ethernet port to the remote port in the Appletalk control panel. Then unplug and replug the Asante box cables as described above. Then switch Appletalk back to the ethernet port in the control panel.
I don't know if a similar procedure will work in OSX, so its easier just to turn everything off first. I'm also not sure if the OS9 trick works when more than one computer is running on the network.
