I like the happy finder. That is why I have a OS 9 around so every once in a wile I can see the finder dude. : )

 

But he's always there in OS X - in your dock!

That being said, if they could think up something cooler, I'd say go for the logo change, but I doubt they're gonna change it.

 

The boot logo for AppleTV is much nicer...for that matter so is the one on the iPhone.

 

If we could make a custom logo that would be even better as it would fulfill everyone's wants.

I miss the smiling mac. It always made me happy to see that guy.

 

I miss the days when you could put a startup image in your system folder and that was the background.

 

:clap: x2 Anyone remember the system extension Video Startup? I LOVED that thing... as slow as it was...

 

Quite frankly, I want the happy mac back! That little guy greeted me on every bootup since I got System 7 way back in 1992. I was saddened when they changed it to the finder logo, and just downright pissed when they changed it to the uncreative gray Apple.

Sure, the little happy mac may look silly, he may be a low-tech 2D sprite, but he gave the computer character. He made the computer something more than just a trendy Starbucks toy. He made the computer personal. He made it relate to you. He made it... human.

I don't see what the big deal is, considering that there are utilities for changing the startup logo to whatever you want (within bounds). The grey apple is just fine because really, I do not sit around watching the machine boot.

Plus, I have the verbose boot sequence enabled on my iBooks, so the graphics mean nothing.

 

While it might be a nice change for a new boot logo, at the same time I can see why they haven't changed it.

Apple has been pretty consistent with their boot logos, and the happy finder was the "classic" Mac OS boot logo. The Apple logo is their OS X boot logo. Now, if there ever ends up being a major overhaul to the underlying architecture again, I could see them changing the boot logo. But I really don't see that happening anytime soon. The UNIX based NeXTStep architecture OS X is built from seems to work pretty well for today's computing needs.

That said, maybe they'll surprise us and change the boot logo anyway.
