Good for you!

I'm still trying to get my Dad to switch from his Windoze box to a Mac. It seems that every second phone call I get from him starts with "my computer is broken again".

He lives on a different island than I do so I can't just drop by and resolve the software conflict that has "broken" his computer, or clean out the latest virus, or defrag the disc, or swing a freshly-slewn chicken over my head while excising the evil demons from his slow buggy virus magnet.

He has a technician on a monthly retainer, and has spent several times the original purchase price of his HP on emergency repair calls.....while "saving money" by buying a cheap PC because "Macs are sooo expensive". (arf arf arf)

He's even more Scottish than I am.

haha...man you guys are hilarious!! virus maganet..Imac'd the dad!! love it...anyways...funny how we went out for supper then we went to London drugs...then he paid for the ibook...then I took it home?? hehe...guess he wants me to install a couple of programs for him...so I get to play for one night..thats fun....but finally he can see the light...and WOW did my dad and my step mom go Googoo eyes for the 12.1 Albook...he wanted that more than the ibook (don't balme him though) but the Albook is $2189 over the $1149 ibook 900 price!! so thats the difference...so now I am off to play and install! I know once they use a Mac they will never go back...cheers, Mark

This is something that I have wondered about for some time....

My dear old Dad was talked into a Pee Cee by my stepmom, despite all of my recommendations (she said "why do MOST people own PC's and only a FEW people own Macs??)

My very best buddy was similarly persuaded by his "better half" to buy a Pee Cee, again despite all of my pleadings and my demonstrations of how much better they are.

She pointed out, very convincingly, that the vast majority of computer users buy Windoze boxes. So why would they want to buck the trend?

And..get this...her first and second computers (looong before my buddy ever even THOUGHT of owning one...were MACS!!!)

But...oddly enough...my best buddy and his wifey have decided that their very next computer will be a...wait for it...an Apple Macintosh laptop (Powerbook)!!

And my Dad is finally coming around. I am planning on giving him my G4 Sawtooth when I buy my new G5.

That will make him into a true believer, fer sure! ;)

And my Mom has decided that she finally needs a computer to do the daily bookwork for our bottled water company.

She is asking me for my cherished Pismo. Plus...she wants to know how to run it.

So...that's more than three new Mac users from my humble beginnings. ;)

Just a thought here...but if ALL of us managed to bring in three or four new Apple converts, then all of ourr software and a great deal of our hardware would become a whole lot more "cost effective" as they say.

And Apple would be even MORE solid and solvent and widely accepted than they are today.

Anybody with me on this? ;)

Yep! I switched my mom also. At first she was affraid, it took a while for her to get used to the new system (she is VERY computer illiterate) but now she is totaly into it. I am just waiting for Safari to be more stable and usable to make her get rid of IE. I think the things she loves the most about her eMac are the screen, one button mouse (shame on her!) and the fact that it never crash or act weirdly.

My real challenge will be to make my coworkers switch. So far, I have found that the easiest way to make them realize how supperior the mac is simply to show them a presentation of my vacantion in Mexico from iPhoto. They all have problems with their digital camera and xp, so when I say that I just have to plug the camera in without having to install anything, they start showing some interest. Its just a matter of time before they start asking me about buying advices and every time a new virus hit us (ehh.. them), they realize how much I was right...

I can't really say I switched my girlfriend to Mac : i switched my girlfriend to my iBook. She hated my old Performa running 8.1 because it was slow on the Internet (33.6 modem!), could hardly read Word files from her fellow worker (she's a teacher) and didn't like ClarisWorks 5.0 because it isn't Word and doesn't have WordArt

Anyway, most of these "problems" are gone with the new iBook, new scanner, new color printer, new speakers and DSL connection to the Internet. She also like the ability to work... at work with the computer (and not have to wait to use the Winblows box), listening to music from iTunes and burning CDs.

Now if only I had the money to buy Office X, she would marry me...

On the other hand, I have a friend who really likes the design of Apple computers, but he's not even want to try iTunes for Windows.

I do my best, but I still have to switch my brother, brother-in-law and father to Mac...

good to hear.

Actually, my younger sister just put a deposit down on an emac at her campus computer store today so soon I'll have another switcher within the household too.

(And when I "switch" my aging G3 for new G4 or G5 early next year, my parents can become default switchers too. I'm sure my Dad will be glad to get rid of his Pentium 2 Porn Pop-up machine. Of course, those Britney Spears links do make him curious....)

:D
