Who owns Unix (or is it UNIX or unix)?

Probably AT&T (before it was broken up into all those baby Bells)...

Remember that dude that was suing Apple over ColorSync patents? I wonder if he's changed companies? Smells the same...

I think it's all part of a larger game ...
plus, everyone's talking about SCO vs IBM and thinking, gee I wonder what we could sue for - grab a piece of UNIX while it's hot!
Maybe the lawyers are just trying to set certain precedents

The Open Group currently owns the trademark to Unix, while other parties claim to own some of the intellectual property behind Unix. The Open Group requires that products pass a number of different tests in order to bear the Unix name; part of the licensing fee charge goes towards that compliance testing.

For what it's worth, this lawsuit is over 18 months old (it was filed back in December 2001). It's only gaining attention due the the kerfuffle that SCO is causing.
