A VST Zip expansion drive or a VST Superdrive 120
with the option of a Floppy?

I know that the Superdrives by Imation are non existant
these days and that the Zip disks will always be around.

I'm thinking of getting a VST Zip 100 for my expansion
bay on my Lombard, Any thoughts? or experiences?

My wifes Lombard was getting tight for space so we ended up getting a VST Zip as a quick fix. In the long run it became a pain to carry and have to sort through extra disks. If you can I would recommend bumping the HD, I ended up purchasing a 30GB drive for $220 or so.

I have a second 10 gb expansion drive that I use for
storage and I also have OSX installed on it, Although I
am thinking of swapping the two drives and make the
10 gb drive the internal drive with the 5 gb drive as the
expansion drive.

I really don't want to use the 10 gb drive for storing
images that I take with my camera though, Hence the
question about the Superdisk and Zip drives.

I have an external USB 2.0 burner but it's a bit clunky to
carry around, I'd much rather have a expansion bay
option for quick storage of images until I get around to
burning them.

I have an extra padded MCE carrying case that will
hold expansion bay devices, So carrying around the
device won't be a problem.

At the moment I'm using credit to buy the expansion Zip
drive, So a bigger internal drive isn't an option.
Thanks for the info though.

Cheers!

I always like the zip expansion drive.
It was never a problem to carry it around.
I found that the PC's I had to interact with were using zips more than floppy disks.

I've heard that the infamous click of death doesn't
appear to be that common in the expansion Zip drives,
Is this true?

Does anyone know if there is a CD burner that will work in a Lombard/Pismo? That might be the ideal solution.

dolawren, what about a USB flash drive (those keychain thingys)... say a 256MB or 512MB? Sounds like this is temporary storage. Or would you need more than 256 or 512 MB of temporary storage?

Then again, increasing the size of your HD, sounds like a better option to me. Why take it off the HD and store it temporarily somewhere, until you burn it? Sounds like a lot of moving around of data for nothing. You put it on the HD, only to put it on ZIPs, and then you move it from the ZIPs back to the HD, and then burn it on to CD. Why not just leave it on the HD until your ready to burn it to CD.

I just swapped my internal drive with my expansion
drive, So that gives me a lttle more room on the startup drive.

I use 256 mb flash cards in my PCMCIA slot to transfer
images from my camera and being able to move them
to a Zip disk right away seemed to make sense just in
case I started using up too much hard disk space.

I really just need info more on the Zip drive because I
might be able to nab one for under $50. cad and I
thought that it might be a nice solution considering my
images get quite huge.

There is an expansion bay CDRW drive available but
it's just a tad too expensive and I have never seen them
second hand...Unless you count the hacked drives from
P.C. laptops.

USB key drives are interesting, But they aren't really
cheap yet, Thanks for the idea though.

I just won a brand new...Never opened expansion bay
Zip drive on eBay for just over $50. cad, So I guess that
seals the question on which drive to buy.

Thanks for all the replies.
