IS Apple iphoned out the bung and can't release anything else major?

Perhaps. The general consensus seems to be that they are waiting for Leopard features so won't release until Leopard does.

That's what I'm thinking too. There's going to be a lot of integration with Leopard that could be Leopard only.. so, it's better to wait. :)

Are you supposing that it won't work with pre-10.5 OS X? I'm a little surprised that there hasn't been an update to either iLife or iWork. I'm sure Apple will do neat things with those apps and Leopard, but there are sure to be many users who stick with 10.4.x (or 10.3) and I wonder why Apple is making everyone wait. My desire for an update is rooted in the assumption that iWork will include a spreadsheet next time around. I guess I'm just impatient.

Wow, Apple users are spoiled.

Sometimes things are worth the wait. I'm glad they're not just releasing new versions for the sake of raking in an extra $50 buck. There's absolutely nothing wrong with iLife 06. Perhaps the lesson here is for them to move away from the year designations with software. But then again, 1.0, 2.0 etc also has its limits.

All this to say - Safari on a Windows Vista box is fast, blazing fast. It makes Vista almost bearable.

But not quite. Oh well, it's only my gaming rig.
I hope your not calling me spoiled
Just imagine iDVD and iPhoto with Core Animation integrated into slideshows and menus. Imagine Core Animation being added to Keynote in iWork. I'm not too worried about waiting, myself.
I don't consider myself spoiled. I have run up against the limitations of iLife '06, and want to plunk down some cold, hard cash for an updated, improved version. Spoiled would be wanting something for nothing.

How long has it been since iLife '06 was introduced? Over a year?

At this rate, the new version will be iLife '08. :(
Sorry Ottawman, I didn't mean to imply you were spoiled.

Don't get me wrong, I'd like to see some updates to iLife and iWork so I can dump MS Office but good. However, I'm not heartbroken that there hasn't been an annual release.

The same goes for leopard. I hope this is the last cat for a couple of years. It will allow Apple to focus on major improvements to the OS (ZFS), integrated virtualization.

the iPhone has been iHogging all Apple's iResources. I think Steve put his foot in his mouth when he showed it off the first time and had to really backpedal to make it happen.

It will be at _least_ until Leopard is released, but I suspect it may be longer. The iPhone put Apple behind the 8 ball on many many fronts, and sadly I don't think it will be the success that Steve thinks it may be. We've not seen ANY developments announced at all on the Mac hardware front (aside from the very quiet release of the new screen/chipset based macbook pro), nor on the iPod front, nor on the Apple software front since the iPhone was premiered ... coincidence? I think not. He even pulled all his dev team from Leopard to make the iPhone happen. My advice .. stay away from first gen iPhones and be prepared for a bumpy ride with Leopard, at least for the first few dot releases! :(

I doubt that it will be called iLife '07 if it's being released in October. It will either be iLife '08 or something new - iLife Leopard has been suggested.
iLife Leopard has been suggested.
That's ILL... sorry couldn't resist!
