Hi, I was just hoping for some input on which is the best upgrade option for my begie G3/458mhz..Will I see a serious speed boost in OS X by swapping to a 500mhz G4? What about the recently released (or soon 2 be) Powerlogix 800mhz G3? Anyone who has gone this route could you please give me some info, as the local seen is all about the new G4's (which i can't afford..YET!) sooon i hope!) Thanks for any input you can through at me!

I would recommend the Powerlogix 800 MHz G3. Going to a G4/550 MHz wouldn't make a big boost from your G4/483 MHz, barely, anyway. The 800 MHz ZIF also runs at a 1:1 backside cache, opposed to the 1:2 cache on all G4, earilier G3 processors, increasing in speed. Although others would argue the G4/550 1:2 is faster than the G3/800 1:1, it really isn't. Unless you have applications that take advantage of the G4 processor, the G3/800 card will give you far more speed, especialling in gaming. Even though the G3 800 MHz card has only a 512k L2 cache compared to the 1 MB L2 cache on the G4 ZIFS, it's running at 1:1 (800 MHz) compared to 1:2, (half the speed of the processor) whch makes it slightly faster overall.
