This is indicative of a defect with the LCD panel itself - you should get that sucker into an AASP to see what would be involved in replacing it. I've seen that before, and sometimes it will get worse, sometimes it won't.

Defective LCD Panel as described. If the unit is out of warranty, get a new computer, as the cost to replace said part is more than you're willing to pay (trust me).

so what does a laptop with no cosmetic damage aside from the screen like this go for these days?

also, roughly how much would it cost to fix the screen? is it possible that i could get the part and do it?
