Webcam OR Just cam

Looking to set up cam to broadcast to the net. Not sure what road to take. Simple webcam with third party software to work with my older OS ( 10.2.8 ) and of course a USB 2.0 connection. OR should I use a camcorder (video camera) also third party software but faster Firewire connection. Keep in mind I will be charging for viewing content so quality is of concern.
