Excuse me for posting what would seem to be obvious, but did you try a Google search on anything like:
'Mac Driver for SAMSUNG SCX-4200 laser printer'
which seems to produce lots of possible options for downloading what you are looking for.

Have a look here:

Yes, I'll probably get heck for suggesting doing a Google search, but I find they work very well and I believe these forums are designed to provide help for Mac users and their Mac and associated device problems.

Patrick, many of those sites are possible purveyors of malware, as Samsung has sold its printer business to HP. HP, on the other hand, has ceased to support the older Samsung printers on newer OSes, as this model is now 15 years old.

Thanks for the info, and hopefully the OP will read this as well if they didn't already know.

I'll let them Google various legitimate sites and see if he compatible software version exists for them to download:

Also, there seems to be a possible candidate in the Samsung Universal Print Driver that seems to be available for download:
Samsung Universal Print Driver is also compatible with macOS 11.0 or big sur, and Windows.
.

Maybe there's still some life left in the old printer after all... ;-)
I did not notice and I don't think it was mentioned what Mac OS version the OP happened to be using with their 2017 MacBook Air.

A universal print driver that drives all Samsung printers? And it works on both Mac and all versions of Windows--why that almost seems too good to be true...

You can't. Samsung's printer division was purchased by Hewlett-Packard seven years ago. HP stopped updating Samsung's printer drivers years ago.

Unfortunately your printer uses Samsung Printer Language, and no other printer language. So you are SOL; not even a generic printer driver will work with your printer. (It would have been great if your printer used Postscript, a universal language, but it doesn't).

Even worse, there was a company that offered commercial Samsung printer driver replacements, Splix, but I just checked, and they are out of business. I've checked the other third party printer driver developers, and none of them support your printer. Sorry.

The same thought crossed my mind, but what the heck, maybe worth a shot to try just in case it just happens to work, but I doubt that Apples SIP would even allow it anywhere close to being installed.

I'm curious to know what Mac OS version the OP was running that allowed that printer to work with their Mac and what did they do recently that stopped it from working??? I'm guessing a fairly recent Mac OS version update killed the printer from working.
