Can I use one for my printer and/or midi controller? I need about 12 - 13 feet.

I don't see why not, just use a USB A-A extension. 12 feet is well within the range limits of USB.
You're actually not that far from the 5 meter limit at 13 feet.

I would suggest you forget about using USB extension cords and get a good quality 15 foot USB cable. It should be shielded and 24 gauge minimum.
One great place for cables is Monoprice.
They are dirt cheap and their cables are excellent.
A US company that obviously likes doing business with Canadians - and for anything less than $C20.- from the US, there is no duty, tax or any other fee. The package just shows up in your mailbox.

you could do this for your printer

I just moved both my printers to my studio, and have the family computer in another part of the house, plus the kids computer all connected to print remotely

Thanks for the input folks.

Will check out MonoPrice for cables as that seems to be more inline with my current needs. Prices are definitely cheap. Almost seems too good to be true.

Thanks again for the info.
