Please stop me if this is the wrong thread, but it regards Macs. I'm just wondering about the UPS tracking details.

Location------------------Date--------------------Local Time------Description
SHANGHAI, CN-----------30/03/2010-----------22:18------------DEPARTURE SCAN
-----------------------------30/03/2010-----------19:48------------HUB SCAN
-----------------------------30/03/2010-----------11:15------------ORIGIN SCAN
CN-------------------------30/03/2010-----------23:40------------BILLING INFORMATION RECEIVED

I have no clue what any of this means. Like what is Origin Scan? Hub Scan? Why the hell is it coming all the way from Shangai. Sorry about this, I don't order much online so Im not use to using UPS. I've only used it one time before and that was from someone in the USA sending me a Graphics Card for my PC awhile ago. Anyways off subject, I've looked over UPS's website and unless I'm completely blind, can't find what these mean.

*Sorry I have to add lines to keep it organized.

As i've searched on google, many are complaining it takes weeks. I'm fine with it coming from there but I've heard complaints that its landing in Vancouver then being shipped by transport to the location. So that'll mean landing in Toronto, waiting a day then being shipped to me.

If it takes weeks that's because the model they ordered wasn't in stock or is a custom build.
Every Mac I ever ordered on the Apple store showed up at my doorstep two or three days after it was shipped - and they either came from the Far East or California.
So if yours is shown as shipped you will have it shortly.

As has been said before, a lot of Apple stuff ships direct from the factories in Shanghai.

With regards to the tracking lingo, origin scan is the first scan of the actual product in the UPS system. The other entry is just billing info, basically Apple making a reservation to send the product. The other scans represent different stops, the Shanghai UPS hub, and then it leaving Shanghai. The next scan will probably be in Alaska, then Calgary, then Toronto, then by truck to Keswick.

Please stop me if this is the wrong thread, but it regards Macs. I'm just wondering about the UPS tracking details.

It's actually quite amazing how fast they do move once they're in the UPS system. You'll probably have it in a few days now.

The billing scan is when Apple enters the package into UPS' billing system (creating a waybill etc. - assigning a tracking number)

The origin scan is the scan done when it leaves Apple's facility.

The hub scan is done when it reaches one of UPS collection/distribution hubs (Shanghai in this case).

The departure scan is done when it leaves Shanghai.

So - it's on its way. You'll see more scans when it arrives in the US/Canada (don't count on it going straight to Toronto - it may go to somewhere in the US like Alabama for instance, or it may go to Calgary...UPS routing is sometimes a little mysterious) and the final scan will be "out for delivery" the day that you can actually expect to see it on your doorstep. Usually they have a projected delivery date when you enter your tracking number at the UPS web site.

Okay, I just hope with the easter long weekend this week, that it comes before friday, because then I'd have to wait even longer.

Patience, my friend...

Just curious, if you are in a hurry, why didn't you go to the Apple Store in Fairview Mall (Don Valley Parkway & Sheppard), which is about 45 minute drive tops (slightly more by public transit) from Keswick, buy the notebook off the shelf along with iWork and install it yourself?

I didn't buy it, my parents did. And it was in inconvenience to go down to Toronto for it. To get my parents to allow me to get a Mac was one thing, some fights and such. But for me to take the car and drive down is another. A) I don't know my way around Toronto, and B) I don't like the apple store. To crowded and theirs no one on one time with the staff. Plus, when I'm trying to explain things to my parents, I don't want someone their butting in and telling them something, because they don't know my parents and will probably make them more convinced that I don't need one.

Have you ever been to an Apple store? It really doesn't sound like it... but to each his own.

Everytime I am in Toronto, it's always busy and I don't have the money to bus it to union station.

I always find it amazing how Apple purchasers become so stressed out about their product shipments...

A search will reveal many other threads identical to this one.
Umm no im not stressed, if you look at the first post it was about the shipping process.

Okay so i don't get this at all anymore. It originally said Departure Scan from Shanghai 22:18 30/03/2010. Now it appears again with Departure Scan from Shanghai 22:38 31/03/2010. Its either shipped twice or hasn't shipped at all?
