when you look at these people closely, there is a spinning disk in each pupil that you can barely make out. It's like a spiral that turns and turns toward infinity

For a second there, I thought you were talking about me!

I think you mean John D, unless you're doing middle names. ;)

The iPhone will be what it will be... I'm almost certain it won't live up to the hype, but what device can? That certainly doesn't stop me from wanting one.
Actually, I think he meant "John C Dvorak" ("C." is his middle initial).

At any rate, as much as it pains me to admit it, I can't say that I disagree with Dvorak's assessment of the current hype. Certainly the iPhone is cool, but this is rapidly becoming one of these situations where the myth is becoming far bigger than the reality.
The media claim that there is Apple hype on the iPhone

but frankly I see little Apple generated hype but hype from the media wanting to outdo each other minute by minute second by second . The hype is media generated

Somewhat like John C himself....?

LOL Ya think?
The media hype is incredibly stupid. There was an article the other day about how the iPhone's battery would last longer than originally speced.

a) Why was this in a Canadian paper? The iPhone won't launch here.
b) Who cares!?! It's a cell phone battery! How is this news worthy?
I like how many "news" stories there are that something is "overhyped," which are of course examples of themselves.

The same applies to forum threads, whether they are more hype, anti-hype, comments on the hype, calls for less hype...

What do people expect? Cool stuff that nobody notices?
I, for one, welcome our new iPhone overlords : Press Release etc

I'm flying to D.C. this weekend to visit a friend & try to snag an iPhone. I have a U.S. SSN from a few years ago, and a U.S. address -- hopefully it works out.

This part of his piece kind of rubbed me the wrong way:

"Hitler got less coverage when he invaded Poland."

I don't know why I have a problem with that sentence, but I do.
I thought this was going to be about Johnny Cash :(
iJust hope the iPhone does not execute like the Newton. The initial excitement over a quality ground braking device ultimately replaced by ridicule because of poor execution.

iHope there will not be the iBacklash to iProducts as we all tire of iNames.

My wife who (never uses her cell) has managed to accumulate an $80 balance on her pre-paid cell phone (with a $10 per month top-up and a $6 per month voicemail/caller ID charge) and desperately wants an iPhone. But obviously not for the phone.

This could be the reason for the anticipation of this device.
Sorry, yes I did Mean John C Dvorak hehe, just liked the title better without his last name hehe.
Ah, Good old JCD. He's just whoring for traffic like everyone else. It works whether you diss the iPhone or you praise it. Not that he's dissing it.

If he's so sick of the iPhone hype, he shouldn't contribute to it; but he knows perfectly well that not writing anything would be a waste of a good opportunity to drive traffic. :D
At least he's not Robert Enderle...
Why are we giving this guy, or Enderle, the time of day?

I mean really. We all know they're blowhards and yet every time we say something there are pages long threads about it. Howsabout we just ignore them for a change? maybe then they'll go away.
