Sorry if this has been said already, but DO NOT start harrassing the CJAD morning man. He is an outstanding guy and would not have anything to with this. How do I know this, you ask? I worked with Andrew Carter at CHOM 97.7 FM for two years and know him to be an honest guy (and it's not like he needs your cash).

If anything, the scammer a**hole chose the fake name on purpose.
Scammers are choosing real names all the time ,.....just not there own!!
For example, I had an ad for a Powerbook combodrive and some ram for about $95.00 and some guy with wretched spelling, wants to pay me double that price to end the auction. Anyway, he's dictating to me how he will pay by Western Union, and USPS will be contacting me.Asked me for my full name and address, which I didn't give him.Ya, right, whatever you say! My reply was: Ok, so let me have your address, .....so I know who to send the shipment to.I'll pay the shipping. So, the guy replys, and gives me this address; Stan Williams, 1653 something Estates, Logos, Nigeria!!
I, thought that was pretty funny.

This criminal and others like them should recieve public beatings every day for a month. That will discourage others and they won'jt do it again. We should be able to spit and piss on them. They deserve it. Not everyone has money. I got scammed for 760$ from him. I tried to buy a iMac G4 from him. Certapayed him the cash and never got the computer. no response. i filed a report on www.recol.ca listing other victims to link our cases.

Again, though, these people DO need to be beaten. Seriously. That's the only thing that seems to deter criminals these days. IT's not like they killed someone or commited sex crimes, they just stole large amounts of money from people who may or may not be able to cover the lost money. I saved for a year for that money. I'm soured against MAC now because i got burned trying to buy one. It's not logical but its true. Maybe when I am rich I'll buy a new mac.

There are scammers and thieves in all areas of society. Get your driveway done, get your roof done, buy a used car, engage in casual sex, you get the idea. YOU have to be aware of the risk and protect yourself, take any measures you deem appropriate. If it feels iffy run. No its not logical to become brand averse because some slimeball didn't deliver the product and took your money. I buy and sell a lot of stuff here and have never had a problem.

The steps I take (if not buying locally) are:

determine your comfort level for a transaction

ensure that the price is reasonable (not a bargain)

get a real email address

get a real name

get a phone number and call the seller to confirm the number, and deal details, and satisfy yourself that he is for real

I try to pay with paypal if possible, insured up to 1200 I think, and credit card company will reverse the payment if there is a fraud

have the item shipped with a tracking number and if you can't find it in the tracking system within a few days get on it and call the seller

if I am uncomfortable with any of the above I pass and move on

If you have any other suggestions I would be happy to hear them.

There was an ad posted in the Classifieds yesterday for an Imac being sold by a Montrealer. I contacted him and the sale was already pending and the ad has since been removed. Usual gmail account, same specs as previous ads posted by scammers. Maybe we can catch him at a Leafs playoff game.

[Edit ehMax. No personal insults. Next warning will be temporary removal from ehMac.ca]

Lighten up.

If there is an ad that interests you, perhaps "Save as" a web archive, and then you have it for future reference.

Unfortunately, I think this guy's still at it. Three weeks now and no iBook in the mail.. and I think this was the same guy mentioned here. :/ Would have been my first laptop and first mac.. desperately needed for work, and now I'm screwed..

His bank account name was 'Raouf', which I googled with the words "bank account" and found this thread. If only I did that three weeks ago.

I found his ad on usedmacs.ca - and lost $650. Any update on anyone getting something done about him via RCMP/Montréal police?

Interesting...seems as though you are looking for someone who likes house music. John Howard is a famous house dj; Andrew Carter is a house dj, entrepreneur; I know, because I know him. Haven't seen him in a while but I can guarentee you this isn't the same guy.

Raouf EMad

I have also been scammed by Raouf Emad very recently. Has anyone had any luck with the RCMP or RECOL? I have sent in my info to RECOL with info from this site that his name may be Andrew Carter or John Howard.

I've learned my lesson too, but would like him to learn his.

this is terrible so many people are getting ripped off by the SAME dude years after i first got shafted... RCMP RECOL was unhelpful.. nothing from them... i wonder why they cant find this guy.. could it be THAT difficult? or are they understaffed?

Anyhow.. i'm sorry for you all.. try your banks if you paid by visa.. cause you can void your payment by up to 30 days (i think) if you get scammed.. i believe its a VISA buyer's insurance.. all credit cards should have them..CHECK!!..thats how i got my money back

Another Victim

I found this thread too late. Emad Raouf took me for $700. I am a student and now have no computer and no money. I have taken all the measures I can to track this guy down but its beginning to feel hopeless. This is insane that this guy has not been busted yet. I feel like an idiot also for ever falling into his trap. Can anyone out there help me?
