How about a quick summary?

1.) Andrew Carter ripped me off 725.00$ (for a G4 ibook). He is located somewhere near Montreal. He claims he is innocent and I will find out when I get home today.

2.) Other people have had similar experience with this mysterious guy from "just off of montreal". He also goes by the name "John Howard" it seems. Maybe its two different people - we don't know for certain. Although there is a lot of similiarity.

3) Tracing through John Howard's telephone number.. we got Mr.Emad Raouf as the real guy. Applelover has all the information about him.

4) We wish to investigate this matter and provide information to the RCMP through RECOL in an organized manner. Thus, we need to get evidence of other similar events. If you think you have been a victim of this person, please email me your details (transaction dates, and other e-mail evidences). If valid, I will submit another to RECOL.

I had the same thing happen to me from this forum, different name but a guy just outside of montreal. I spoke with him on hhis cell phone, and still have that number if that would help. It was for an ibook never received.

Anyway, this is enough for us to proceed with getting the RCMP involved.

My lesson is learned and so will his.

Stillmot, can you provide me with the name that this person used when transacting with you?

In order to provide some useful information to the RCMP, please provide me with descriptions of your experience (what happened, the dates, how much money you lost, the e-mails, paypal transaction #, etc). If you don't mind, please also give me your personal info.

Currently 2 other people who have joined the rally. Again if you're a victim to this person - let me know about your experience.

You know, when I saw the ad for the G4 ibook listed at about $700 my first thought was that this was a scam. I even considered posting on the ad something to the effect of "be careful about this one", but that would have been against forum rules, and would have been unfair if the person had been legit. I feel sorry for you but you have to have a sense that the deal was too good to be true, and that maybe you shouldn't send this guy money.

Chastisement aside, I applaud the initiative and help shown by so many members in raising this issue and the awareness of various side-effects with such deals.

I myself am too chicken to do non face2face deals.

I emailed both John Howard and AndrewCarter about their great deals since I am in Montreal and prefer to buy locally. AndrewCarter never responded, even when I offered the asking price. John Howard replied to me saying that he was in Toronto and was moving to Montreal and if I wanted the Imac shipped instead of waiting for him. I told him I'd wait and I never heard from him again. Regardless, the best thing is to buy locally, and face-to-face. People in T.O. and in Vancouver are quite lucky as there seems to be a number of used Macs for sale. Unfortunately, in Montreal, it's hard to find a used Mac, and even when you do, people are asking outrageous prices for them. I'll end up buying new for sure in the end.

John Howard's name is now added to the suspect list in the submission to RCMP. Are there other victims of John Howard?

We believe John Howard and Andrew Carter are fake identities for the person named "Emad Raouf".

Th Ontario Provincial Police may investigate. To help them with the process, I am trying to gather evidences and information.

Sorry if this has been said already, but DO NOT start harrassing the CJAD morning man. He is an outstanding guy and would not have anything to with this. How do I know this, you ask? I worked with Andrew Carter at CHOM 97.7 FM for two years and know him to be an honest guy (and it's not like he needs your cash).

If anything, the scammer a**hole chose the fake name on purpose.

Emad Raouf is definetly an Arab name, he could be Egyptian. If he is, DO NOT APPROACH HIM ALONE.

Um...okay. Nabbing scammer con-artists is one thing; tarring and feathering Arabs over this is racial profiling and is just plain ridiculous.

Bad-ass scammers come in all shapes, colours, genders and ethnicities.
