Now that I have a Powerbook, I'm finding I use it a bit more than my Tower. Yet, I still use the Tower for other important things as well. What is the best approach to synching the two? I have vital files on both, but I don't want to overwrite a newer file with an older file in backing up. Any suggestions? What is the best "technical" way of synching- booting up off the Powerbook in FW mode? How do you do that? I have an external FW drive that I was backing up files onto, but that's just another device in the middle of the whole process.

You can use a backup program like Dantz Retrospect to Sync your files, or you can do something more manual like I do. I have home and work Macs, and every new or updated file I create moves back and forth via a usb minidrive (they're very inexpensive, and can be bought at electronics stores like Future Shop or Staples). My method works, but some people would find it too much of a pain to do daily backups. However, I have yet to lose a file I needed access to. By the way, the latest MacWorld describes an external Maxtor hard drive that does an instant backup by just pushing a button on the drive. The drives start at around $300CDN for a usb version, but they are convenient and get a good MW rating.
