Sometime when I eject a disk by dragging to the trash, the icon dissapears, but the disk remains in the drive and the eject button on the keyboard won't work. At this point if I try to launch toast it tells me that it cannot detect a burner. The only way to get it to work again is to restart. This happens more often than not.

Any thoughts?

Hmmm.
Sounds like the OS is not communicating with the CD-RW very well.

Re-install OS x.2.5 or if the burner is after market, install those drivers again

If you run the Apple System Profiler, what info. is shown re: the burner?
