I first learned this on the macnn.com boards. http://www.apple.com/powerbook/specs.html now shows the 17" PowerBook being capable of writing DVD-R discs at only 1x speed. That's kind of a disappointment - I thought it was another step into the future when I first saw the 2x rating on the 7th. And, now it's all a lie. I think quite a few who've already ordered are going to be screaming at their screens as this is learned. Maybe the PowerBooks ARE capable of 2x including the old - like others have said, Apple possibly crippled the drive.
Apple's safe because they've got their "Product specifications are subject to change without notice," in their PDF.
Any thoughts on this new info?
***As of 6:40pm EST today, http://www.apple.com/ca/powerbook/specs.html still has the SuperDrive rated at 2x DVD-R writing capability.***
