Can anyone explain the easiest way to start over with Apple Mail? I don't believe there's a way of uninstalling Mail from the System, but I'd like to reset Mail to "original" and set up my IMAP Gmail accounts all over again.
quit Mail and delete the file ~/library/preferences/com.apple.mail.plist, the whole folder ~/library/mail and the whole folder ~/library/maildownloads. ~ means your home directory. you can get to it by clicking on the house icon in the sidebar of any finder window or by going to /users/username.
Ok. So there's nothing to copy back over since it's all IMAP. Just let everything rebuild itself. Gonna clean house first. Gotta go through that "Important" folder for that.
You will have to re-configure your accounts in Mail Preferences. It doesn't hurt to do this once in a while anyway, or at least, review all email account settings.....
Trashed the mentioned items after quitting Mail. Restarted and it automatically showed all 2 Gmail accounts as well as iCloud, as if nothing was trashed before restart. No reconfiguring at all other than reinstalling a plugin.
