Anyone with some advice?
I just tried a terminal command to delete my index file, which I found in a previous ehMac spotlight help thread. However, after re-indexing, it's still not able to find *anything* at all. :(

Does the issue persist under a different user account?

I assume what you mean precisely is that you su'ed to root, went to /.Spotlight-V100 and deleted ContentIndex.db ?

As root, query the state of the indexing
root # mdutil -s /

( should say Status: indexing enabled )

if you feel brave try
mdutil -i off /
mdutil -E /
mdutil -i on /

this will rebuild your whole index.

If you're not comfortable working as root, ignore this post.

I would run Onyx and have it delete the Spotlight index as well as it's regular maintenance.

You also may have added the drive to the privacy list or unchecked all the "types".
