Silencing macbook startup sound
..... *BWONG!!!* ....

You know, as much as I love my mac, that start up sound tends to scare the living crap out of people near me when I turn it on. Is there any way I can silence it permanently? Sometimes when I start mine it doesn't make the sound, but usually it does, is there something I am doing to manipulate that or is my unit not functioning correctly?

Why turn it off? Just sleep it.
I just turn the volume all the way down before I shut down the night before.
