I'm trying to get a secure lock or cable for someone in the family who has an IBook.
I know precautions are the best way to avoid getting your laptop stolen but here goes anyways: This IBook will be used in a trade show to do a slide show to prospective customers. I've read some reviews of the Kensington cables sold by Apple and it didn't seem too good (damaging the lock-slot).
Any recommendations?

I have the Kensington lock, haven't had any trouble with it. If someone tries to steal the computer, chances are they'll damage it whatever lock you buy. It's really just a deterrent against a quick snatch and run. If someone really wants your laptop, a cable lock won't stop them.

Avoid the combo locks (not all models are bad, but I don't recall which, hence the blanket warning). In a quick trial at work, I averaged between 20 and 30 seconds to unlock the combinations, without knowing the combination.

Although the cable won't do much to deter a real thief, it will stop someone from walking buy and picking it up.
