Republican Lite

Just when you thought you couldn't get anymore cynical, speaking strictly for myself here, you read something like this:

http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNe...ories_parliament_070518/20070518?hub=Politics

Mild compared to the sickening corruption and criminal self interest being documented in further detail everyday, of Cheney/Bush's nest feathering venture in Iraq.

But still sad and creepy.

You must be very young Greenlion. This tactic is usually in the playbook of all parties.

Not that young....I realize most parties practice procedural manoeuvres, but this is the first I recall of a party actually creating a handbook for its members,
How do you learn in school? Textbooks. You have playbooks in sports, why should politics be any different? You want gov't to be transparent, what's more transparent than this?
"You want gov't to be transparent, what's more transparent than this?" How about a government with substance? How about a government with a sense of ethics that does not mirror what they blasted to get elected? How about a government that makes us feel that we HAVE to vote in every election and to be concerned about all issues? How about a government "of the people, by the people and for the people"?

yeah, but not that bit about starting a pre-emptive war on bogus evidence causing the deaths of tens of thousands for no particular good reason other than to make petro dollars and m-i complex dollars has to be a new low

and for those keeping track WMD count STILL equals zero

Soooo Right :( really :(
Perhaps if representative government could do just that and power was taken away from the PMO citizen wouldn't be so cynical of elected members of parliament.
I remember seeing the playbook of CUPE at one point, about 20 years ago, which contained detailed written instructions on how CUPE members were to go to any non-unionized post office and feign deafness while placing postal orders in order to discourage customers from waiting in line.

Absolutely brilliant!

Following your thesis, the government can (with the use of their playbook) use civil disobedience to thwart their own power and topple the unreasonable tyrant.
Much adu about nothing.

Using proceedure is nothing new. Anyone with a couple of bucks can buy Bourninot's Rules of Order and get the same information. It really does not take 200 pages.

Using the system to your advantage is not underhanded or sneaky. All parties do it.
The Liberals were masters at this sort of thing and it is no surprise the Conservatives are engaging in it as well. But it wasn't too bright to create a 200 page manual that could be leaked.

This kind of thing at this time of year, just after I had to fork over a pile in taxes, fills me with a tremendous sense of value for my money. XX)

When you juxtapose against Harper claiming that it's the opposition using the delaying tactics, yes there is much to be cynical about.
At least the opposition is trying to work together. There has been, in these past weeks, some rather childish and unprecedented
There is a certain amount of hubris in this playbook, and much of the mischief parallels recommendations in the "how to" manual.
Trying to push one's agenda has nothing to do with this undemocratic stance - and it's not too far to see that this is an echo of Cons south of the border.

It's shows the contempt that some have for the electorate.

I wouldn't try it--the CUPE plan failed miserably.
At least the opposition is trying to work together.

Yes, they've worked to pass some landmark Bills, haven't they--and brought down the government in the process.

With the Connies tried to block everything, it's rather hard no?

But do enjoy the construct of your reality....

Filibustering your own parliamentary committees....

The Post Office sure it was CUPE and not CUPW?
