I'm looking for a low price Mac that can run iLife
Would a G3/300 run it and what OS would I need?
Thanks John

A G3/300 would run iPhoto and iTunes, but iMovie, iDVD and Garageband would be pretty slow.

Also just to clarify, you are talking about a B&W G3 tower? I don't think beige G3s are supported, and the G3 300 ibooks do not have enough screen resolution to run the ilife apps.

Keep your eyes open. I have a feeling that you will be able to get your hands on a used G4 system at a good price soon that will run all the iLife apps. I have always made good use of iLife, now that I have iLife 04, that tradition will keep on going. I love every click about it.

If you can afford the slowest G4 Sawtooth (it has AGP graphics), that's the way to go. the upgradability of this Mac is better than the B&W. You can stuff a dual 1.4GHz G4 processor in it if you want, and upgrade to a much better graphics card.

As stated by others, Apple is dropping OS support of any mac that does not have built-in USB.

I think you would get frustrated waiting for every task you perform. A G4 would definately be better.

The minimum requrements as listed on Apple's website are:

Macintosh computer with a PowerPC G3, G4 or G5 processor

600MHz G3 or faster required for GarageBand

G4 or faster required for GarageBand software instruments

733MHz G4 or faster required for iDVD

256MB of physical RAM

Mac OS X v10.2.6 or later (Mac OS X v10.2.8 or later recommended)

QuickTime 6.4 or later (QuickTime 6.5 included)

Display with at least 1024-by-768-pixel resolution

DVD drive required to install GarageBand and iDVD

4.3GB of disk space required to install GarageBand, iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie and iDVD; or 250MB to install iTunes, iPhoto and iMovie only.

right here on ehMac is a good place to start for used stuff, also the sponsor dealers like MacDoc or Carbon
or end of line stuff can be found at big name stores
I do not suggset buying Macs on EBay unless you like to gamble
