I have repeatedly tried to get QT to play the Nkorho stream in the upper left at this site:

http://www.africam.com/#

Every time I try, it plays the commercial in the window, then tries to open a new QT window and hangs QT and I have to force quit QT. Many others can watch this with no problem.

I am using Safari on a MBP with Tiger 10.4.9.

I have done an archive and install, then updated. I have downloaded and reinstalled QT. I have run Disk Utility and OnyX.

I have also downloaded and installed Flip4Mac all to no avail.

Anyone have any ideas what else I can try?

Just bumped this to see if anyone has any thoughts. I have tried everything and it is very frustrating to have to boot into Windows to watch a streaming web cam, especially when the commercial plays, and only this stream won't. Are there maybe some files I could try deleting to reset QT?

Hey SINC. I'm not sure if this will help or not. It sounds like your Quicktime doesn't have the proper codec, or you have 2 conflicting ones.

Have you tried installing Perian? Perian - The swiss-army knife of QuickTime® components

If you go to the root of your drive, then Library, then Quicktime, you will see a bunch of ".component" files. You could manually copy those to a new folder and keep adding them back one by one to see if one of them is conflicting with another.

While you're doing this, make sure you restart Safari everytime so that it loads/unloads the components that you remove/move back.

FWIW.. you could try completely re-installing Flip4Mac and Perian once you've cleared out that folder.. it's all that I have installed for Quicktime and the video plays fine for me.

Good luck. :)

I went to your link and had the same issue.

I have perian installed.
Perhaps it is the site that has the issue and not you.
Do other sites work properly for you?

OK, I tried to install Perian as instructed. It says to drag the Perian component to the QuickTime folder, but I don't have a QuickTime folder. All I have is QuickTime Player.app in the Applications folder. I tried dragging it to that file only to get a warning that QT "could not open the movie";

Just how does one install Perian properly?

If you open up the .dmg again.. Where you see "Perian.component", you should see a Quicktime folder already aswell. This is a hotlink to your Quicktime folder on the root of your system. (This is the quicktime folder they're talking about.)

Your Computer/Library/Quicktime is the one.

Since I have the latest Flip4Mac 2.1.1.70 plug in for Quicktime installed, I was able to view the stream just fine with no errors. Note, you have to set the Flip4Mac preference pane in System Preferences to prefer STREAMING content. Also note, the video stream plays right on the page, not in a separate window. It sounds like you don't have the Safari plugin for Flip4Mac installed either.
