I had been told about it before the holidays. Behold, Atlas!! LOL... no, really, this is huge...

I would gladly give up the size of the drives for higher RPM performance, as 4200 RPM is just getting dog slow now and when you have a 1GB Powerbook, it smashes into a bottleneck on read/write.

But I guess it's good for people that want raw size

Apple has stated the reason that they ahve stuck with 4200 RPM is that there is not enough of a performance gain to justify the decrease in battery life.

Based on some comparisons a friend of mine made, I am so far inclined to agree.

true. I guess if you're going to be truely mobile and be in areas with no plugs in site/reach. Outside of that, the fast drives would likely have some heat dissipation issues - I'm sure. Although I will be looking for a 5400 RPM drive...
