I am not sure why this is,
but if you try to play Halo at 640x480 on a RevA 12" PB's LCD, it's really slow and choppy. While doing this, plug in a VGA monitor for mirror mode and the game instantly speeds up. Why, is running two screens easier than running one?
Maybe it's related to the fact that if you run Halo at 1024x768 resolution which is the native resolution of the screen, it runs great. I can understand that - there must be some sort of geometric translation going on when running at 800x600 or at 640x480 on a 1024x768 LCD, and this must cost performance.
It's a little harder to understand the first one, though. Maybe when the VGA is connected, some parts of the video card dedicated to running 640x480 become active.
Anyway, hope this helps anyone wondering what resolution to play on. This probably applies to other games too.
