Powerbook G4 battery problem

4314 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  reneerose
My hardrive died, and my (competent) brother opened up my powerbook and replaced the old hardrive with the new one. Fine.

Since then, my batteries only run for half an hour to an hour rather than their usual 3 hours. It can't be the batteries themselves, as I have 2 (one of which is rather new) and they were perfectly functional prior to replacing the hardrive.

Any ideas as to what i should do? Is there a battery recovery disk or someting?

Thanks!

Just reset your PowerBook PMU (power management unit).

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=14449

and tell us if the PB is charging OK.
Re:

Ok, before I reset the PMU, what does this warning mean exactly?

"Resetting the Power Manager on any PowerBook or iBook will permanently remove a RAM disk, if present, and all of its contents."

Will I lose anything (data)?

You won't lose any data. The RAM disk is not something you have active unless you manually turned it on (and you'd remember if you did).
Re:

that seems to have done the trick! Thanks guys!
