....Or take it out from the Public Library like I did a couple of months ago! Really liked the movie.
Yeah, that's what I did too. Public libraries are great for this stuff.
you can also watch it online from peekvid.com or alluc.org. You can't download from these sites, but you can watch it live. Does that make it more legal then downloading it? I think so, but I could be wrong...
They had this featured on cultofmac.com a few days ago so naturally I had to watch it... if even half of that stuff is true it's really eye opening. And Steve Jobs must've been kind of a jerk back in the day, and Microsoft was the tiny company... truth is stranger than fiction I'm sure.

I was bummed because they kept talking about MS headquarters as 'Seattle' even though we aren't in Seattle, we're in Redmond! And Redmond is much cooler than crappy broken down drug laden Seattle.

Do you work for Micro$oft?

Much -- not all of it -- is true.

And Steve Jobs must've been kind of a jerk back in the day
Yes. He sure was. I wonder how of that "was" "is" in him today. One thing's a sure bet, things must be PRETTY INTERESTING down in Cupertino these days.

and Microsoft was the tiny company... truth is stranger than fiction I'm sure.
Gates' deal with IBM was the most amazing business deal... of all time! EVER! What is undersdtood to be true was that, when they got the deal signed with IBM... the boys had NOTHING of DOS and bought it from that dude from The Seattle Computer Company. That's about all MS had going for them -- or at least, he most important thing going for them: Gates had BIG BALLS, baby!

And the biggest loser in tech OF ALL TIME??

"The Document Company" indeed. Idiots.

Do you work for Micro$oft?
I think he does. Wonder what department. MBU?? :)
It's pretty much as I remember it - Steve Jobs was difficult to work for to say the least. The first meeting I had with him, he ripped my face off when I said I was from Canada because a Canadian supplier had just delivered a cross-wired batch of power cords for the Apple //+ and forced a recall - as if I had anything to do with it!!!

The point the movie touches on but fails to elaborate on, is that Steve didn't believe that MS was a threat because they didn't control the hardware and therefore could not innovate. It was a true belief, but Bill Gates' comment is true - innovation is not what the mass-consumer (or IT departments) wants - they want just "good enough" because they don't know any better - and MS sure delivers on the just "good enough" front.

Other than that, the movie brings back some great memories of the time and of friends made that are still in my circle today.

Yeah I work for MS oddly enough. And sadly no, not for the MacBU. Those guys are really strange. They are sealed up in this underground bunker completely seperate from everyone else - honestly I've never even seen a MacBU person on campus ever.

Wanna know some funny things about Microsoft? Almost every employee has an iPod on their desk, and a huge portion of the MSNBC news team uses MBP's exclusively. But just don't go walking around the hallways saying something like "OpenOffice" or you might find yourself in the employee prison.

I really liked Steve Wozniak's or Woz's character in the movie. Did he really just leave Apple like that and never come back? I also was really marvelled at seeing that the origins of both major operating systems were simply hacks or knock offs of failed projects by other companies. Messed up stuff.

Woz did leave Apple like that, but he came back to develop the Apple //GS which had a Mac-like operating system and a mouse and was aimed at education. I used to have a Woz special edition which had his signature on the front panel - don't know where that one went - must have lost it in one of my moves!!! He was given the title of Apple Fellow and I believe still shows up every now and then.
Thanks for posting the link, Maca. I hadn't seen the movie and quite enjoyed it. Boy, Noah Wyle did a great job of Jobs. That opening shot, with him looking into the camera is mesmerizing. Reality distortion field indeed.

I knew a lot of the Apple history already, but most of the MS lore was new to me. Very interesting even if it is somewhat fictionalized.
I just purchased this Movie on DVD. I couldnt find it at any retailers in the area so had to buy it on Amazon. Cant wait to watch it. For anyone out there that likes to read.. I have been reading "The Cult of Mac" It is amazing... Talks about everything from apple tattoo's, What Apple is like in Japan and lots of macnut interviews etc.

Amazon.ca: The Cult of Mac: Books: Leander Kahney
I sure hope Steve Jobs has mellowed out in the last ~10 years... he was a whack-job in the early days! :yikes:

If you look at the google video upload of it, every other comment is 'macs suck'. But hey, that's what brain washing does to people.
