if a digital camera saves the photos on a memory card, then is a pci card slot necessary on a computer? if one doesn't have a slot, what should they do?

It depends on the digital camera. You shouldn't need a PCI slot which is used for expansion. Most cameras connect to your computer using USB, and transmit the images that way. Others require a Card reader which attaches to the computer via USB so you can download the pictures.

I'm not sure where you got the necessity for a PCI Card, or a PCMIA card but you shouldn't need one. Which digital camera are you looking at specifically?
