Thought I might share some notes about the one issue I have had so far with Panther. Right after installing the upgrade, I began noticing a strange, steady squealing noise from my hard drive. Not loud, but enough that I could hear it. I checked with Apple's discussion base and found that I wasn't the only one reporting this. After a little digging, I noticed that journaling had been enabled on my HD (it wasn't before, so I suspect that it is now enabled by default in 10.3).

Once I disabled journaling and rebooted, the squeal went away...and I got a slight bump-up in overall speed. Not sure if this issue is related to the problems noted here, but I thought that this might come in use for some of you considering the upgrade.

Disc utility. If journaling is enabled, the little green button that says "Enable Journaling" will be greyed out when you highlight your HD or partition. To enable/disable, select the command from the File menu.
