If so, there was no thread title alluding to this. I checked all the way back to Oct. 24th when panther was released. The only thread that had "FileVault" in its title was this one. And, there was no mention of the bug in that thread.

One question for Panther uses, I take it Filevault is off by default when you do an install or update?

To avoid this problem it sounds like you can just leave Filevault off or make sure you do not reclaim disk space when Filevault asks you to.

Yeah, FileVault is off by default. Disk journaling, on the other hand, is on by default when you initialize and install on a disk under Panther. I chose to turn this off, as it takes up additional drive space and steals some processor cycles.

When I tried to use FileVault, it changed the ownership on almost all my files and folders to root. I had to sudo chown everything. I am using an Upgrade install, and my home directory is really huge. I disabled it, so I can't say much more.
