You are right on with it being 400 Mhz. It suports up to 512MB of RAM. Would it be posible though to put in 2 512MB sitcks to get a total of 1GB, even though it is not suported by Apple?

Yes. I've had 1GB in my iMac DV before I got rid of it. Ran without an issue.
