Hi, my daughter needs to do a flash animation and she has a ibook g3 version 10.3.9 , we only found newer versions of macromedia flash for g4 or g5 and 10.40 and higher and they wont work in my ibook g3.
Anyone knows where can i get and old version or a site with older software versions?.
thanks in advance

yes, Adobe makes older players available to developers to test our flash on previous versions, here's my link...
Adobe - TechNote : Archived Flash players available for testing purposes

if it doesn't work, I believe you can type in 'archive' in the search when you are at 'flash player support' page.

I am not an expert but those are flash players, I think I cant do a project with them, they are just to view flash animations, right?.
thank you
oh. I assumed you were looking for an older version of the player.

or authoring, it probably isn't legal for anyone to offer a download of the authoring program previous to CS3 now.

Best idea I can offer besides finding a not so legal copy would be if a book store (or someone with an old book) that has an older flash book often those have a cd in the back with a demo version of flash.
so with a mac if you dont have the latest OS version or better hardware your old mac is useless, thats a reason to stick to windows, you can put win xp in any machine even a pentium 3 and then use any program available for win xp.
Thanks anyway, i guess I will have to do it in my win xp, it is so frustrating that I can only use my mac for chatting and internet.
well, given that Tiger is at least a few years old, and we're about to see a new OS, it isn't really that surprising. Panther is really old news.

You can still put Tiger on a machine apple offered like 7 years ago, and it'll run decently. But that doesn't mean you are going to be able to run CS3 on it really well.

Good luck with CS3 on a pentium3, hope it has a decent amount of ram...

>edit: looked at the specs, CS3 requires minimum pentium4, it says 512 ram, but good luck with that, and XP needs service pack2.

So it won't even run on a pentium 3.

It will however run on a G4 :)

no.... that is not it. Don't spin it.

You have exactly the same problem on Windows -- if you are using Win 95 / 98 / ME instead of XP, many new programs simply will not install or run. When new Vista-only and 64 bit programs are released they ^*#( sure won't run on your PIII with XP either. The reason why it looks like MS gives you a longer compatibility window is that they have taken 6 years to deliver a significant upgrade to the OS  .

Now, in your specific case, the brand new version of Flash Professional requires a G4 processor or higher to run, and OS 10.4.x That has nothing to do with Apple, it is the decision of the software company to build in instructions specific to that level of CPU, no different than a company saying you need a certain minimum level of video card in your PC to run a game (or an OS ;) ).

So if you want to create Flash with Adobe Flash, you will need to get an earlier version. If the software manufacturer does not offer the prior versions for sale (did you contact Adobe? Sometimes a company will ship you prior version disks when you buy a new license - this varies company to company), then you have to look at the secondary market - eBay, new-old-stock sellers etc. or choose a different program.

BTW this is the first major third party program I have seen that is G4/10.4 mandatory. The other 10,000 or so programs available for G3/OS10.3 hardly limits you to internet and chat.

Thanks for the help, all I was trying to say is that in windows even windows 98 you can still find software around to use, but in the case of macs you only find the newer versions of any software and for me that I want to give a try to mac it has been very frustrating, i know someone is going to say to get a better laptop but I dont think that is the point, besides macs are not cheap.
I am just looking for software that can run in my ibook G3, I dont want the latest version.
Thank you all, like i said I will do the job in windows and keep using my ibook for the internet.

No, that is so not true. Given a *particular* software program Flash Pro it is not available in Win 98 or for PIIs and PIIIs, or for machines without a DVD drive, or for machines with less than 512 Mb RAM. There is no difference in that regard between Win and Mac - any specific program will have its limitations.

You can't use one particular example, and use that to generalize across the platform. (well, you could, but people would think you are closed-minded and just out to start a fight)

"You can still find software to use" - yes, you can on the Mac too. Just choose a different package from the 10's of thousands available, or find some shareware, or look at the used market.

Have a look on Mac, Palm, and Windows Software Updates and Downloads - VersionTracker and do a find for Flash or Slideshow or SWF

Heres a piece of shareware that allows you to build Flash slideshows with images and music and it's compatible with your machine

exactly. It sounds like a bit of nonsense to me. I can find software for OS 9 on my beige G3, but not adobe flash.

Thems the breaks, both windows, and OSX.

Nothing annoys me more than to try and help someone, and hear this kind of sour grape crap.

another one banished to windows. Enjoy. :)
I just got 2004 StudioMX at compusmart for $175 clearance.

They had one copy left, of the pro version, it was about $300

Downtown edmonton, In case that helps.
What's the fuss about?

Macromedia's "Flash Professional" 8.0 works just fine on my pismo 400 Mhz 1GB RAM, running 10.4.9.

I don't know which iBook G3 is under discussion here, but if it's 500 Mhz or above, go for it. I do have 10.4 on a Lime iBook 366...
CS3 is currently the trial download.

and the OP has panther which it won't run on.

So finding a trial in a book, or buying a copy of an older version as someone suggested will work for panther.

So would putting tiger in. :)
