Was thinking more about the US only thing at it might actually make sense...
It would be kind of cool if there was a Canada specific iTunes store... sure you could buy everying the US one had, but it would be better I think if it highlighted bands like BNL, Avril, Tea Party etc... etc....
I think this would be a great thing for Canadian music and it would be good if other countries could browse and buy other countries music stores...
Apple has signed with the big 5, but aren't there other Canadian specific lables as well?
Anyway, just a thought. Either way, sure wish I could shop at Apple US music store today.

I tried getting on and there was a message within the iTunes window that says that I can browse but not buy. I'm wondering if it is reading my Country settings in my preferences?
If so, I am going to try and change my address and Country to reflect my Brother-in-Law's in Texas. If it does, I'll keep you posted.

my business partner and I are working on an online music download site (Paid) specifically for Independant Canadian Bands. Our goal is to help them reach a broader audience with lower costs (IE, if they have their recordings but cant afford distro and duplication). Right now we are looking at our options for services (IE Hosting) as well as looking for a coder that would be able to code up the shopping cart (?).
I will keep you postd on that!

Alot of online companies that accept credit card use a verification process that check the card information and verifies the address of that card holder.
Could be a possible problem if you use a different 'shipping' address. Even though you are downloading everywhere.
CC address and US shipping address must match.
Therefore you are better off using your Brother-In-Laws CC

At least Canadians can browse the store and listen to the music samples.
200,000 tunes sounds like a lot, but they have lots of work to do to make it into a "real" music store.
The per-song sales model has some interesting implications for the industry. "Little Tiny Song" (Barenaked Ladies - 1:06) costs 99 cents US -- the same price as "Romeo and Juliet" (Dire Straits - 6:05).
I notice that the Dire Straits album Love Over Gold isn't listed. Maybe "Telegraph Road" (14 minutes) will require a premium price?
I'm pleased to see Rendezvous music sharing is now enabled in iTunes 4 (although I haven't been able to get it to work yet).
The addition of album art is also nice, but it doesn't download automatically yet -- you have to add your own. Still, it's nice to see iTunes catch up with this feature from Windows Media Player. (Maybe Apple is waiting for CDDB.com to include cover art in its database before adding this option to the "import" preferences?)
All in all, a good day for Apple.

I am furious over the lack of Canadian support for these new services. Although I've never been one to download a lot of music from the net, these new iTunes services suit me perfectly. I'll bet thousands of Canucks are sitting here with buckets of "spare change", willing to part with some of it for a few choice tunes.

Well, where I can't argue that "Not Available outside the US" does suck, it also makes sense. After all, this is a brand new avenue for Apple. To try and start off too big too soon might over-tax their set-up. After all, if it did, it might cause an implosion that could create small black hole, sucking the earth into it and ending life as we know it!

Seriously, though. It's probably not very long before we get access. Be patient. It hasn't even been running for 24 hours yet.
And your 6.x Pro key for QT should work fine.

The upgrade is done. QT 6.2 is hap-hap-happy. iTunes 4, despite the "recommended system" requirements of a 400mhz machine, is humming right along on this old Tangerine dream. Apple makes damn good products, let me tell you!
For those who have not yet bitten the bullet and upgraded to iTunes 4... DON'T.
Contradiction? No. Don't be like me, and spend the last few hours salivating over all the songs I <u>can't buy because I'm a Canadian</u>. Well.... that, and the fact that my credit card, even it were recognized, is 'waaaaay over its limit these days
There are some lovely little details in iTunes 4. Poke around in the preferences. Haven't seen anything new in QT6.2 yet, but haven't really gone hunting.
I'm with Mississauga on the music store... it suits me perfectly. Maybe too perfectly. No more screwing around with LimeWire or whatever. Steve said it best during the demo. This is so simple, I can practically feel my money flying away.
One question / bit of advice: In your preferences, you can choose to shop on a one-click-immediate-buy model, or to use a shopping cart. What's the deal with credit purchases, anyway... any disadvantage to buying each $0.99 song separately?

I think the shopping cart is there for those of us with "poor impulse control". There have been times when I've walked into a record store and walked out with several CDs under my arm (none of which I planned on buying). I fear that with Apple's music service, I'd lose track of just how much I'd spent.

Strongblade, it's hard to imagine Apple turning down any sort of revenue stream, or, more importantly, ways to increase market share of their computers. If the various digital devices need a hub, then let the hub be an Apple computer. Some acknowledgement that Canada would be online by Canada Day would have made some sense, rather than the "US billing address only" pronouncement.
