I can get close to 7hrs with my MacBook, with the monitor dimmed, bluetooth and wifi off, and only word open.

I'm running 2.0 Core2Duo as well.

Hmm :], i see what you are saying... but I still have a feeling the new macbooks are a bit more efficient, as they have the new chipset ...
Anybody knows if the graphics card is much better than the last generation macbook?

Even with the new X3100 and the lighter (in Weight!) Santa Rosa chipset, Apple still only advertises 6 hours of battery life. Though in my experience (similar to the OP's) my macbook c2d 2.0 gets 3-3.5 hours of use, but that is at 3/4 brightness and with Wifi on.

can anybody recommend a good after market high capacity battery for macbooks. I have been looking around on the internet and they all obviously say they are the bests. Does anyone have some good experience with a maker that they would suggest?

Just look for one with a higher mAh (mili amp hours). The highest wins.

Also, don't get one off the black market, might explode.
