ATI HD 2600XT Photos and Benchmarks

Sounds like a very nice mainstream part. Should be launching soon (next month or so). The 5% CPU utilization when using this card to decode 1080p content is especially inetresting.

There were reports that the first PC shipping with the high-end version (the HD2900) would be the MacPro. But the 8 cores are out and still no HD2900 - maybe it will show up soon as a BTO or upgrade part.

AMD is planning a top to bottom launch. That might even include mobility parts.

Pure speculation, but the launch might coincide with new iMacs or MBP models.

i doubt apple will get any ATI love anymore... as amd is already ****ed that intel is kicking there sorry asses... so they may say no to apple.. just because of the intel processors? but again you never quite no.

Maybe, but I doubt AMD/ATI would be dumb enough to walk away from a deal.

Having said that, the new NVidia parts are nice too. The 8600 can play Oblivion at decent settings so I would be happy with that. And PureVideo is a nice technology.

well i can definitely agree with you on that!! as i happen to have an 8800 GTX. But as for AMD/ATI... after AMD bought out ATI... it seems they have been on the long road to ... welll.. going down... and if you haven't already noticed.. apple is already on the switch to Nvidia products. ala Apple TV, MacPro, iMac 24"... im sure the next revision of the iMac's will set them ALL at nvidia... and also the Macbook Pro's.... i see a not so distant future where Nvidia is the default on mac! but then again... i don't really care.. as i only use my mac for music production.. and everything else i do is on my gaming PC.

The new 8600 part from NVidia is actually much better at HD decode that the 8800 GTX. Amazing.

I have to wait for the next gen MBP and see if Apple switches to NVidia.

I think ATI sucks as they always lacked decent mac support or any options for mac users to tweak thier card settings. The same card from ATI for PC was MUCH faster than the mac version and the mac version was WAY more expensive. So suck eggs ATI. Unless AMD see's a good opportunity to make awesome mac cards we can hope for that but don't hold your breath.

You obviously don't know what you are talking about. ATI's cards are fully supported by their software and allow customization of the card. You obviously haven't used ATI's Display Panel or the overclock utility for their cards. ATI's cards have more support than Nvidia's. Where is Nvidia with a control panel like the ATI Display or an overclock utility?
