Msn messenger for mac?

4165 Views 21 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  messed_kid
I'm the new owner of a iBook G3, but it seemed to come without any messaging system. I think its something with a J, thats just for macs.. I don't know if its on my Mac and I can't find it, or if it just came without it. Does anyone know where I can download it? I know that theres a Mac version of Windows Live Messenger, but I don't really want that...

OpenSource is for hippies. ;)

Mactopia: Download: Microsoft Messenger for Mac 6.0.3

Get the real thing. Microsoft Messenger 6 for Mac.

:D thanxu
aMSN is the best one i've used so far. It's the only one i've used that reliably supports cam AND file transfer. Not to mention you can customize the hell out of it and make it act and look just like the regular msn :)

Cheers.

Blah. It's all about the better application, and messenger for mac is not the better application
Messenger for Mac is the better application.

I agree. The others are not as refined and don't look very good in my opinion. Too bad it doesn't support video conferencing though.

LOL each to their own :) I find messenger for mac big and clunky. I prefer the ability to setup my chat apps so that they aren't as obtrusive. My friend list is transparent, in 9 point font sizes and split into several groups.

Also Adium is the winner for me because it does so much more than just messenger (like tons of other chat protocols) ... I have my ICQ, AIM, MSN, Jabber, Yahoo and Google Talk accounts all setup in one app, so my buddies who use all the different chat apps show up in one place.

Lastyl I'd rather support open source ... maybe I'm a hippy. Oh wait (glances at the long hair and tatoos in the mirror) ... I AM a hippy, that explains it all! :D
Uh oh. Let me guess. Now you will love him and hug him and call him George. Or maybe Georgette if he is not a he! Run for your life!

Buddies not lovers. :p

I prefer Skype's and iChat's own apps -- the other two messengers I use -- over Adium. Adium is pretty good I'll admit, I used it before when I got frustrated with Microsoft Messenger which hasn't frustrated me much lately. I would describe Adium as jack of all trades, master of none.
I used MSN until Safari 3 beta kept crashing it. Switched to Adium and really like it. Skype satisfies my video conference needs and sometimes even messaging.
i also use adium, except when video chatting, which i use skype for.

i've never had any use for microsoft's messenger program - like the rest of their software for macs, i find it underdeveloped and slower than comparable alternatives.

but each to their own - i think the best option is always to try all the apps and see which works best for you. :)

Oi ... that's not quite what I meant. That saying was from an old (older than me) Looney Toons cartoon.

Same here, but instead of getting a different IM app, I just went back to safari 2 :D. Not a big fan of the unreliability of Betaware. Messenger for Mac..HIP HIP HOORAY!

Well, the only unreliability came in the form of MSN not working with Safari. My preference is to use Apples' latest and greatest rather than an aging application from M$ especially when there is one equally as good in the form of Adium that doesn't crash with Safari. Just my preference.

Aside from Skype, which doesn't have the popularity in North America as MSN etc.. there is really no client that sets themselves apart from the rest to be honest.

Is THAT what's been causing my messenger to keep crashing? Safari 3? Can you please post how to go BACK to Safari 2?

I'[ve been wondering just what the heck has been going on with MSN for Mac lately. Everytime I close a chat window (saving the history or not), Messenger quits unexpectedly. I've tried re-installing it several times, but nothing has helped.

Hope to hear from you on how to get my older version of Safari back on my system.

Cheers.
