I need a estimated price please. I am considering upgrading to a newer G5 and I'm wondering what the value of this system is worth if even sellable ... here goes:

MDD G4 Dual 1.25GHz
1.5GB Memory (3 x 512MB)
nVidia GeForce Ti 4600 w/128MB RAM
SuperDrive DVD-RW
Hitachi CD-RW
Seagate 80GB HDD
2 x Western Digital 80GB HDD's (RAID)
Western Digital 120GB HDD
The rest of the goodies, modem, firewire, USB, ethernet, etc.
Panther 10.3.x
6 months Applecare remaining

Holy crap!! You have a very impressive system. I would wait a while before upgrading, let them improve the G5 a little more. A computer like yours should hold it's value well for quite some time...finding someone to buy it may be a different story.

Yea. I have a similar system and I have "upgrade-itis" too. I want a g5 too. But unless you really need the speed increase from the G5 now, I'm holding out for a bit for the newer ones. Unless I see a sweet deal on a dual 1.8. The few dual 1.8s I've see for sale are only a couple hundred bucks below retail. Bet they'll be cheaper soon ;)

i dunno with all the disk and RAM you
I would say $3K
Simon you will still get good resale in a year and the G5s will come down in price and give better performance for the same buck

I think Minnes is closer. I'd say $2800 to $3000 as is

FYI:

I also have nearly the identical machine, except for the graphics card:

MDD G4 Dual 1.25GHz
1.5GB Memory (3 x 512MB)
9800 pro w/64MB RAM
SuperDrive DVD-RW
COMBO DRIVE CDRW /DVD
Seagate 160GB HDD w/ 8MB cache
2 x Western Digital 40 GB HDD's with 8 MB cache (RAID)
Western Digital 120GB HDD
modem, firewire, USB, ethernet, etc.
Extenal 160 GB Firewire Drive

I paid $3450 for this 6 mo's ago
____

I would say yours may be worth - what $2500 - $2700

A DAMN fine machine... in theory around 3000,,, in reality 2200-2600...

Problem is 3000 is out of the range of the bargain hunters hoping to upgrade who can't afford top of the line and is close enough in price to a dual g5 for people with the money to go with a new machine instead and be state of the art rather than state of last years art.

My opinion anyway...

That is probably the best response to a price quote I've ever read here. Way to go Visual-Q. Informatative and backed with proof of a sort.

Thanks Robert...

By the way I am bargain hunting...HINT!!!!!

But I would concur with some, you have a great machine Simon, so unless you REALLLLLLY want or need a G5 the economics of the situation may benefit you to wait a little while.
