Although this post is several years onld I'm having this problem right now.

I'm using .mac and ucalgary.ca (IMAP) mail accounts and both can receive but neither can send. Any thoughts... everything is fine in the settings, so I can't imagine what is wrong!

Some major ISP's (i.e. Shaw) are beginning to block outgoing mail port 25 in an effort to reduce spams and viruses on their network. If this is the case, you will have no choice but to use the outgoing mail sever (SMTP) provided by your ISP. Give it a try.

By the way, it wouldn't hurt to always use your ISP's SMTP server to send mail regardless of who provided you with the email accounts.
