I have been using my Santa Rosa MBP for just over a week now.

I have the following comments

Its ridiculously fast , mind numbingly fast.

It looks very nice

Complaints

The better half of my screen has this annoying yellow tint and i have done so much work I don't want to return it.

The computer is hot enough to cause welts on bare skin

BLOODY KERNEL PANICS , UGH . I would attempt to log onto my 30$ a month hotspot connection at various locales and BOOM kernal panic.

Some other linksys connections would just cause unexplainable freezing

Internet explorer in windows doesn't work correctly , I don't know why but it just will not show websites. While other internet use works fine ( HL2 ETC)

Honestly for a 2500$ laptop , Apple needs a wee bit more quality control.

How's the fan? I have the first gen MBP and sounds like my MBP is about to fly whenever I am doing something graphic or processor intensive.

It sounds like you may have a hardware issue. I'd contact Apple Support to at least register your problems should they persist/get worse. My understanding is that Apple has an unofficial 'three strikes' policy: if you have a problem that needs fixing three times they replace the machine.

Good luck with it. Let us know how it turns out.

Cheers

I have one of these and I don't hear the fan at all. Maybe I'm not pushing it hard enough?

Also, it does get hot, but the Dell that I had before was 1/3 the speed and WAY hotter.

I have the Core Duo, I saw that you have the Core2Duo. I don't know if you have a Core Duo as well but it always happen when; I have parallels turned on with win xp, bootcamp (win xp booted up), playing a game, etc...
Not exactly. The three strikes thing applies to major issues, like logic board replacements, and is completely at the discretion of Apple. Nonetheless, I'd complain about a computer hot enough to burn "welts" and at least have the concern recorded, perhaps addressed.

Yeah, I definitely agree with that assessment. Sounds like some real whacko issues there.

I have the new Core 2 Duo with the Santa Rosa chipset.

To be fair ... Internet Explorer Issues in Windows are not really a problem that Apple should have QC'd on this model of MBP. That's a Microsoft or Parallels problem. :)

That being said, have you installed all of the updates? There are at least two MBP SR firmware updates that Apple released in the last two weeks:

Apple - Support - Downloads - MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 1.3

Apple - Support - Downloads - MacBook Pro Software Update 1.0

Would either of those fix your problem? That's also what Apple will ask you first if/when you call them.

FYI: The first one fixes some sort of display issue. Also, they're likely tossing this on at the factory. My MBP came with it installed. The second one however popped up in Software Update when I set up my MBP. It fixes unspecified "bugs."

Some of the Santa Rosa MBPs are prone to well-documented wi-fi problems (unfortunately, I have my own AppleCare ticket for this matter... heading off the the Apple Store tomorrow morning for the "next step"), so I would definitely call Apple support about this.

For the screen, that sounds like another issue you should definitely call AppleCare about.

Does it get hot even while doing mundane tasks such as surfing and word processing? I find that mine is quite comfortable except when I push it. If it's hot ALL the time, then that sounds abnormal too.
Oh boy. I have started to get wifi dropping out. Im sitting in a room about 40 meters from my router and I am getting 3 of 4 bars. I can only see my shared itunes library if its at full strenth. As soon as the signal strength drops I lose my streaming music. :( Im using a Siemens router/modem combo unit from Sympatico.

Sorry to hear about your issues. I must be lucky as I don't seem to have these issues (in fact, WiFi is better on my MBP than it was on ANY of my PC laptops). Of course I've just jinxed myself by saying that.

Got any links on this issue?

Check out the Apple support forum for the MBP and search for the term AirPort. There were a number of active threads last time I checked.

I just got back from the Apple Store, where the genius simply trashed my AirPort preferences. Not sure why the AppleCare guy didn't think to do that, but whatever... So far my network connection seems much more stable, though the signal strength remains pretty poor. I'm crossing my fingers that my issues have been solved.

Hmmm. I've used it on WiFi on battery a bunch of times and haven't had an issue. I'm going to try it now and see if something "bad" happens. One thing to note is that I looked at the postings on Apple's discussion board and I have the same config in my MBP as the people who seem to have no issues. Hopefully that explains why I've had no issues.
FYI: Those of you who were looking for the Apple Discussion thread on this issue can find it here:

I don't plan on updating my OS.... aparently an update kills the wireless.

I'm having no issues with my brand new MBP wireless or anything it is wonderful.

My only complaint is the trackpad seems slow as molasses (even on the fastest speed) and the distance from the end of the surface to the keyboard is a little bit of a stretch.
