I am using a 17inch Macbook Pro(unibody, 2009) with a 3.06Ghz Core2Duo and 4gb of ram running OS 10.6.3. Recently, my processor is running ridiculously hot, with even the minimal programs running. Currently it is between 70 and 80 degrees Celsius, with only Safari, Mail and Microsoft Messenger running. Before, with no applications running, it went from 30 to 50 degrees(upon startup). It is also causing my battery to drain extremely quick, in about 3-4 with basic programs open(compared to around 8 hours).

My Activity Monitor also says that I have a Kernel Task running that is taking up over 2gb of virtual memory.

On a side note, After Effects has ceased to open.

All of this started a couple weeks ago. I talked to someone I know, and he says he has been getting similar high temperatures since upgrading to 10.6.3. Could this be the cause?
