I have an older MacBook Pro operating 10.9.5 and the backlight functions normally but the brightness needs to be increased. I have searched the web but there does not appear to be an answer for a keyboard that functions normally ( ex. dims, shut off in bright light, turns on in dark surrouding), but is not bright enough.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks in advance.

Was it ever bright enough for you? Just wondering if maybe you want more then it is actually capable of. It is not supposed to be a really bright light, just enough to see the keys easily in the dark.

I didn't notice which MBPro model but maybe try these:

and/or:

Lots of variables as to the cause of different brightnesses.

Or maybe even this:

Pre-unibody MBP's had pretty poor backlit keys. Otherwise, previous instances of liquid damage can also severely diminish the keyboard's backlighting capabilities.

This might sound silly, but, how old is the MacBook, and how clean are the keys? Finger gunk can be hard to see on a black keyboard.

I've seen plenty of older backlights that were faded, gross, yellowed, dim, just from age and use. Here is the replacement part on Amazon:

Use iFixit to figure out how to get to it. Slow and careful will probably take you 1.5-2 hours if you've never been in there before. You basically have to remove everything. You'll need a precision screwdriver kit with Torx and phillips.
