My Macbook's display has just started to flicker in the last half an hour, like a lightbulb in a Frankenstein movie. The only thing missing is the bzzzzz bzzzzz sound when the bulb flickers *grin*

Any ideas on what could be causing this? Is my display dying?

Cheers

Most likely a bad LCD panel or Inverter Board (quite possibly a logic board.) Fickering.. any distorted video, or just flickering of the display?

(To anyone who suggests a pinched cable: It's extremely rare-to-never this is the case.)

My brother had the same issue. They replaced his inverter, then they were going to replace his LCD, but as it was the 4th major repair (speaker issue, login board before) they replaced his Core Duo 2GHz with a C2D.

Definitely take it in, and be prepared for at least a week's turn around if they don't have the parts in.

Have a look on Apple's Kbase and you'll see there's a growing list of Macbook users complaining of this very issue. So far, there has yet to be definitive cause for the problem, but I personally suspect it has something to do with its Power Management Unit.

Also note this line in the appledefects post:

"What is really peaving MacBook owners who are afflicted with the flickering screen is that Apple has started to lock threads on the topic, for no apparent reason."

Mine is also doing it (week 28 MacBook, 1.83ghz). For awhile I thought perhaps it was just the LCD warming up, but it also occurs when the machine has been on for awhile.

Not looking forward to taking it in for service when I get home in September... smaller city (Halifax), and not the most reliable Mac shop (though it appears to be under new management, or at least has undergone some kind of makeover).

Carbon K/W fixed it

I had some work done by Carbon on my macbook this week. All seems good and the service was excellent. He also said that if the problem persists to bring it back right away. So far all seems good:clap: THANKS CARBON....
