Hey!

I have two MDD PowerMacs, both bought used. Is there a way to find the date each one was manufactured, either on the PowerMac itself, or on some website just by knowing the serial number.

The other thing is, why are there such inconsistancies in the cooling/powersupply of MDD, for example one of my MDDs is the FW800 Single Processor 1ghz, which according to spec sheets and all info I have seen should have a cooper second gen heatsink, it has the old aluminum one. My MDD 1.25 dual on the other hand has the cooper heatsink and 360 watt powersupply of the newer FW800.

Can't help you with the heatsink info but if you send me the serial numbers, I can find out warranty info from Apple.

I don't think there is anywhere you can check yourself.

I could be wrong but...

I think that the first gen FW 800 models had the aluminum heat sinks (mine is dual 1.25 and has aluminum) with the exception of the dual 1.42 which had copper for the extra cooling. Your dual 1.25 is FW 400 so would be the second revision and most likely got the better copper heatsink.
