OK, I may be mad... but is there any kind of music utility that can take a recording (could be an MP3), process the various tracks and sounds and output something resembling the various tracks seen in GarageBand?

Not that this would be easy, but certainly isn't impossible. People can create software to do OCR (Optical Character Recognition)... this would be like MCR (Musical Character Recognition)... :D

I think your mad :D . It would almost be like flattening all the layers of a photoshop file, saving it as a jpg and asking some magical program to split them up again. The information of tracks are long gone in MP3s.

Never mind, I found something that was pretty close to what I wanted to do...

Dent du Midi, allows me to take Midi files and convert them to AIFF and drop them into GarageBand...

Now lets have some fun remixing some classical music
