What would you suggest offering price-wise for a used AQUOS widescreen lcd television | LC-32D43U

Sharp Aquos 32" LCD TV

Using it for video games, Mac Mini front row and movie watching.

I was thinking $500

If it's two years old, yea I wouldn't pay more than $500 on it. $600 if it's a year old. A Sharp 32" 1080p screen can be had for $1000 + tax new... and I've seen 720p version as low at $700 brand new.

That's a nice TV and $500 seems fair, depending on the condition it's in, I suppose. Are you buying or selling? If you're selling, get it out there quick as the price of LCDs are dropping pretty quickly.

thanks for the advice. it was bought new in April of 2007, so almost a year old.

I'm ignorant in this area supposedly it's 720p, what will that mean to me for my uses?

and will i be able to read email-size text on it?

further update: seller asking for $1000.

here's her reasoning: "ya im goin by the 899 at future shop, and theres a 3 year warranty on the tv worth 350 so i thought 1000 was a good deal."

As dona pointed out, you can get a brand new one for that price or less.

I wouldn't really count the warranty on the TV at that value.... I mean, I wouldn't buy the extended warranty at Best Buy, and any manufacturer's warranty would come with the TV, so why pay extra for something I wouldn't buy anyway?

You are offering a good price at 500. I wouldn't pay 1000.

I wouldn't pay $1000 for it. As dona83 points out, you could get a new TV for less, even factoring in the tax savings. The 3 year warranty makes this more attractive but if you do decide to purchase make sure that warranty is transferrable.

A similar Sharp is on sale at the Future Shop right now for $800.

I think I saw $700 on the 32" at Visions or A&B Sound... you'd have to confirm though. Computer images will be extremely clear on the screen. $1000 is overdoing it, it's her fault she bought the extended warranty. For $1000 you can move up to a 37". Don't get the LG though... oddly it was not great at display computer images.

I think your friend might be asking too much even with the extended warranty, it seems these sets can be found for $800-$900 new and Bay Bloor audio was selling them at $800 with a 2 year warranty during the holidays, according to Digital Home Canada's forums.

So she's asking you to pay full price for the warranty and saving you a little on the set, which is almost one year old.

Is the warranty from Sharp or a big box store? If the latter, perhaps you can a credit from the likes of Best Buy/Future Shop for the extended warranty seeing the set is not one year old.

As for the 720p question, this is screen's native resolution, which is still very capable of displaying HD content, movies and used a monitor.

If you were looking to get into Blueray/HD dvds or wish to take advantage of the latest gaming consoles, you could consider a 1080p set, which offers more resolution. Of course, what you see on the screen will depend entirely on your viewing distance.

I just got that TV for XMas. It is really nice. My living room is pretty small so it fits perfectly and does a great job of displaying SD as well as HD.

2001 Audio Video had them boxing day for $599.00. My Bro in law works there and he said that was below cost but it was a door crasher. The best deal I found on it before XMas was also through him for $710.00.

I don't think you will be disappointed with the quality. The price she is asking is too much as others have already stated.

If your budget was at $500 in the first place I'd stick with $500, even if it means waiting a few months. LCD prices are falling rapidly.

I just bought a 32" Aquos, took the X-tended warranty so I'm covered for 5 years. If I don't use the warranty, I get the cost ($105) back in-store credit. With taxes, and warranty, I paid $1000.

Wait a minute - computer images will NOT be extremely clear on a 32' with 72p0.
1280x720 is native for 17" and 19" screens to use as computer monitors.

Native 1080p will be acceptable but not terrific - it's native for 24" screens.
1920x1080.

A clear image on a 30" is 2k - 2560x1600.

While video and pictures will be acceptable - small text will not tho large text will be as with all HD sets.

If you are going to use it as a computer monitor then make sure

a) you can return it if unacceptable
or
b) you take a portable Mac to the store - hook it up and try it

better yet both.

Didn't see this thread until today. But I paid $599+tax for this exact tv on Boxing day. It was sort of a door crasher on Boxing day, and I had to visit 3 2001 audio+video stores to find it. But the last time I looked, I saw it for $615+tax. So IMHO, this was a sweet deal for me, but if buying used, it should cost no more than that. I'd walk away, and tell the seller good luck in getting it for that price. It's her loss for paying sticker price, and paying for the chump warrantee. Regular price for this tv now is in $800 range, and with new sets coming in the next couple of months, you could probably get it new for the same price I paid if you're patient and comparison shop for it.

I haven't hooked up any computers to it, but I do have it hooked up to a PS3, and using the surf function, it's acceptable, type is clear, pictures are sharp. I'd recommend this tv, but I'd find it new, or haggle it down to half, cause a used tv is not worth more than that.

I didn't buy that used - that's for sure. I bought a new one at FS for $799. Works great, tho I'm still playing with resolutions and MacBook. Sound isn't the best but didn't really expect it to be.
