Something that just randomly crossed my mind... what would your Mac do if you inserted a CD into your CD-ROM drive upside down? Can't say I've tried it, since I don't want my already-messed up slot-loading drive to get anymore messed up, but just a thought... would it spit it back out?

:D ;)

I have some original slot-load iMacs, as well as some snow iMacs at my school. Yes, even I have had my off day's and put a boot-disc in upside-down
. Both of them spit the disc right back out, no problems.

In OS9 the machine hangs indefinitely, then prompts you to phone Apple Technical Support.

In OSX the CD ejects and jumps into the caddy, the caddy then neatly folds itself up, polishes itself with a soft cloth and inserts itself into your storage rack in alphabetical, chronological or genre-based order depending upon your preferences...

Short answer: Nothing.

Long answer: Spin up the drive, try to read the CD, figure out it's unreadable by asking the CD drive a bunch of questions and getting a bunch of answers, decide to try sending eject call to CD drive, then nothing.
