It's time to renew .Mac again

I won't be renewing my .Mac account this time around,
I still have Photobucket, Flicker, My Space and You Tube that I post at.

Losing .Mac won't be much of a loss.

Yah have iWeb 08 and/or .Mac eat a year's worth of comments in your iWeb blog and complain to Apple and you get a year free.

Seriously though… I have heard Best Buy and Future Shop often have it on sale in store.

I was a bit apprehensive by looking at eBay but found a couple well recommended sellers from the US. Cost $90US for a renewal key.

Is it just the key, no shipping, which mean you really save something. As the shipping from USA has come very high recently...

Personally I just bought a new Mac, and bought it (first time ever) for 99$ CAD. Not bad. I like the new Gallery, and the 10 gig makes it much more appealing.

$116?! wow. i'm looking into that considering i got an email saying $169!!!!

meall, did you end up buying the 24" refurb imac or a new one? congrats regardless.

Correct it's just the key. No sense shipping the box.

$169?? It is absolutely scandalous that Apple still gets away with charging that sum to Canadians.

Do yourself a favour. Get a free Gmail and flickr account. Go to Box.net if you need free storage. You can keep your existing .mac address for iChat...that remains free even after you cancel your .Mac account.

Refurb 24" iMac finally. I really didn't love the glossy. The images are brighter, yes, but it is also very reflective of anything you have in your back or side.

I'm waiting for it now, and I'm looking into memory upgrade for it (2 gig upgrade, 2x1 gig sticks). I ordered a few other items, like an extreme GE base station, an TV, and a brand new iPod touch 16 gig! Can't wait to have this one.

I went to renew and saw the price was $139.00 CAD. But then there was TAX/VAT of 22.24 CAD. What's with that?

I live in Alberta where there is only the GST so $139.00 plus 6% GST of $8.34 makes it $147.34 by my count.

Try as I might, I cannot locate an Apple number to complain about this tax grab.

$22.24 is 16% tax. Grrrr.

Apple dot Mac price has not change for the last 2-3 years, even if the exchange rate is no longer 40%. Can't explain that, as each other product as follow the change...

Like some other said, there is Amazon that have it for the price it should be...

the price they quote is sort of the max like Quebec and the old GST before the Steven Harper give away

You will find that the proper taxes are charged according to the Province of residence

Now the $139 CDN vs $99 USD is quite another question and one that Steve Jobs should address like the iPhone situation

But its never going to happen IMHO

THIS YEAR IS IT - I'm ditching .mac after 5 stinkin years of waiting for a sensible price. tptptptp

I'm so pissed off at the $169 I'm going to cancel this year [well not renew, actually].
-10 gb storage is still way too little considering the price
-even if they gave you 100gb the access is SLOW (took me 24h to backup 7GB to .mac)
-with facebook and youTube I don't need the web site anymore

I don't understand why any of you are renewing online or purchasing .Mac from a retailer.

Want to teach Apple a lesson? Buy from Amazon, FS or Best Buy. Make your purchase ANYWHERE but Apple directly. As long as some folks are too lazy or ill informed, Apple will continue to charge their outrageous amount to Canadians.

There are often sales on .Mac in the spring. Buy then. In the meantime, shop around. You don't have to be gouged.

I am a sucker and will renew. I like the idisk, the increase in space to 10 gb and the galleries. Our university computer store sells .mac for $105. If you have a student or staff id or know someone who does, it would be worth checking out your nearest univ. computer store.

I would suggest that everyone tell Apple about the price of dot Mac here:

If every canadian (dot) Mac user complain about it, maybe will be able to see a price change really soon!

After all, the iTunes songs are the same price in CAD and $US, why not .mac be at least fair!
